South Buckhead Residence

Deep in the woods of Buckhead, you’ll find this 1950s ranch, designed by architect Robert Greene (an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright) for Atlanta’s first modern neighborhood.

The current owners bought the house in 2009 and gutted it down to its studs, expanding the footprint and adding Walnut floors and cabinetry. Then, wanting to honor the home’s legacy of modern design, they turned to us to furnish the space.

Over the years, it’s become a bit of a time capsule of Skylar Morgan pieces. Running the length of the open floorplan is a custom-made 40-foot credenza that helps unify the dining and living room. The dining table is an early rendition of the first piece in our furniture collection, the Doc Dining Table—still part of our core line. Anchoring the living room, you’ll find our Doc Round Coffee Table, a custom Skylar Morgan sofa base and White Oak console, and another relic from the archives: the Stump Occasional Table. A sanded and painted tree stump-turned-side table, it’s a simple yet functional piece that echoes the home’s woodsy environs. In a smaller sitting area, three Skylar Morgan tables show off one of our signature values: letting the material speak for itself. The twin end-tables are solid cedar beams, proudly displaying their knots and cracks. The square coffee table boasts a slab top with all its natural edges, while smooth, pill-shaped legs provide eye-catching contrast. Throughout the home, natural wood and neutrals bring the outdoor elements in. We’re proud to have contributed so many hardworking pieces to this modern house in the trees.
