Atlanta home developer John Wieland, together with his late wife, Sue, has been collecting art related to house and home since the 1980s. In 2024, he opened their collection to the public in The Warehouse on Atlanta’s Westside.
This is a truly unique space we were lucky to take part in bringing to life.
First, in the gallery’s conference room, we built a wall-to-wall bookcase to house the Wielands’ alphabetized collection of art books, as well as a credenza for further storage and display—both made from white oak with our Spotted Owl stain. The credenza incorporates black Soapstone and touch-latch hardware for a multi-textured yet seamless look.
The Cooper Table houses a cabinet of curiosities. This glass-top display table showcases simple yet beautiful everyday items, handmade by a war-vet-turned-artist after whom the table is named. Linen-wrapped display inserts provide a soft landing spot for each piece. We hope the cabinet’s simple yet thoughtful construction echoes the sentiment of the objects it holds.
Next, we anchored the museum’s lobby with two monolithic coffee tables. Integrated stone provides contrast and visual interest, while a subtle toe-kick creates an elegant shadow line that makes the tables—rather than seeming cold or heavy—feel like they are floating.
Finally, we erected a reception desk using geometric shapes and a mix of natural materials, to create a modern greeting moment for guests entering the gallery.
Celebrating themes of home and domesticity with work by Cindy Sherman and Roy Lichtenstein, as well as some incredible lesser-known artists, this collection is near and dear to our hearts. We are grateful to see our own work alongside it.
