Piedmont Hospital

Along Atlanta’s Peachtree Street, you’ll find Piedmont Hospital’s Midtown campus expansion, home to the Marcus Heart and Vascular Center and more than 400 beds. But before it was a state-of-the-art healthcare facility, the space was a tree-studded vacant lot. In the name of conservation (and legacy), the hospital tapped Skylar to repurpose a some of the wood –100-year-old white oak, magnolia, elm and poplar trees. From these raw materials, we created indoor and outdoor banquettes and benches that proudly display wavy grain and natural wormholes, transaction tops for patient check-in, planters, and a collection of decorative extras. More than a typical “reclamation” story, we like to think of our work here from tree to furnishings as a rebirth, with living pieces of the site’s history transforming as the land beneath them is transformed from disused plot to vital center of healing.
